Beware of Tax Scams

The Department of Revenue has been contacted by several taxpayers who have been misled by scam artists. Businesses are being tricked into renewing their sales or contractor's excise tax license, and as a result, scam artists are getting ahold of their bank account information.

Please be advised that the Department of Revenue does not charge a fee to renew a business license. If you are contacted by someone who requests a fee to renew your business license, do not pay and contact our Business Tax Division at directly 1-800-829-9188, option 1.

Arlington municipal tax change

Arlington municipal tax rate change takes effect July 1, 2024

Beginning July 1, 2024, Arlington is implementing a 1 percent municipal gross receipts tax on lodging accommodations, eating establishments, alcohol sales and admissions.

Apply For Your Sales & Property Tax Refund

2024 Sales and property tax refund program for senior citizens and citizens with disabilities

South Dakota senior citizens and citizens with disabilities have until July 1 to apply for sales or property tax refunds under South Dakota’s Tax Refund Program. Under the program, eligible individuals may receive a portion of the sales or property taxes they paid from the previous year. Read on to see if you are eligible.
